Fresh off the successful completion of their “Burnside Mural Plus” project, a group of neighborhood stewards known as Glen Park Beautiful approached Public Works with another ambitious project to spark more joy in the hidden-gem neighborhood. This time, they had their sights set on the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge, a labyrinth of concrete support beams, metal railings and a high-arching pedestrian walkway that crosses Bosworth Street near Lippard Avenue.

With the main span a bit too high to easily access, the group focused their attention on the spiraling ramp on the bridge’s northern end. Public Works’ pro paint crews laid the foundation for the beautification project by abating graffiti and applying a fresh coat of paint in two shades of blue – Nova Scotia and Bedford – to the underside of the walkway. Then, Glen Park Beautiful recruited local volunteers to design and apply an intricate, multi-dimensional tiled mural to each of the five support beams underneath this portion of the bridge.

In all, from submission of the Love Our Neighborhoods permit application to placement of the final tile, the project took just under three months to complete. Of the process, Glen Park Beautiful co-founder Renee Berger noted that “the City has made strides in making this kind of project possible.”
