Little libraries are a fantastic way to connect community members through the power of books. By building a little library in front of your property, you can provide a place for you and your neighbors to exchange your previously read books, and maybe even help spark a few conversations. Ranging from simple designs to ornate, miniature home-like structures, you’ll have almost as much fun designing and building your little library as you will reading the books that are left inside it.
Little libraries are considered Tier 1 Love Our Neighborhoods projects and require the following steps for registration.
Step One: Check if you're eligible
-
You must be a private property owner registering a little library for your own property. If you are a commercial or residential tenant, you must obtain approval from the property owner and submit an authorized agent form with your application.
-
You do not need neighbors' approval to install a little library in front of your property.
-
Make sure the sidewalk can safely accommodate your little library. Please refer to our guidelines.
Step Two: Get your documents together
We will ask for:
-
Your name and contact information.
-
Your project’s location.
-
A description of your project.
You will need to upload:
-
An image of your proposed site prior to installation of your project.
-
An image of your project after installation.
-
Images should show 10 feet in every direction from the site of the project installation. Nearby structures should be clearly visible as well as the curb, if applicable.
-
-
Your authorized agent form, if applicable.
Step Three: Start your registration
This will take about 10 to 15 minutes.
After you submit your form, you will get an email confirmation. We will contact you about next steps.
