A Safer Polk Street from Sea to City Hall - EP.0051
Polk Street is a thriving mixed-use neighborhood and commercial corridor that also has had some of the highest pedestrian and bicycle collision rates in the City. San Francisco's Vision Zero policy calls for eliminating traffic-related fatalities by 2024. The recently completed Polk Streetscape Project aims to increase safety for people walking and biking on Polk Street in response to that goal. A curb ramp on every corner - EP.0020
Curb ramps provide pedestrian access between the sidewalk and street for people in wheelchairs, strollers, walkers and anyone who may need help stepping up and down a curb. Did you know there are nearly 50,000 potential curb ramp locations throughout San Francisco? In fact, it's the City's goal to have a curb ramp installed at every intersection and mid-block location where pedestrian crossings exist. Our crews are working hard to achieve this goal which would bring us one step closer toward becoming a truly ADA-accessible City.

Hang out with Building Design and Construction project managers, Samuel Chui and Julia Groat as they take us behind the scenes of the City’s new permit center and office building, located at 49 South Van Ness Avenue. Construction on the new 16-story building is well underway! Upon completion in 2020, the building will house 12 City departments with more than 1,600 employees, in addition to San Francisco's new permit center, which will co-locate all brick and mortar permitting agencies in a single location, making the process much more convenient for residents, businesses and contractors.

Since July of last year, Public Works has the responsibility of maintaining all 125,000-plus street trees in San Francisco thanks to the voter-approved StreetTreeSF sustainable funding initiative that ensures every tree in the City is properly pruned and given the attention they need. In this episode of Public Works TV, our host Miguel Hernandez joins our Bureau of Urban Forestry as they complete the task of pruning one of the street trees most in need of pruning and extra maintenance. Battle for the Bay - EP 0060
Battle for the Bay, a competition involving the mayors of three Bay Area cities -- San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose -- to protect and clean the waterfront through increased volunteerism, concluded with record numbers of volunteers, trash picked up and beautification projects completed. Team SF brought in more than 3,000 volunteers and removed 70,000 pounds of trash from the City's coastline, streets and sidewalks. The three cities combined turned out nearly 6,400 volunteers who picked up more than 200,000 pounds of trash in just one morning. --- Check out sfpublicworksTV.org for more information!

Love Our City, the citywide cleanup that Public Works hosted last Saturday, September 8, 2018 saw hundreds of San Francisco residents and business owners join Mayor London Breed and all 11 members of the Board of Supervisors to keep the City clean. How we're getting ready for the BIG ONE - EP.0040
San Francisco hasn't experienced a big earthquake in more than 20 years, but a disaster or any emergency situation can occur at any moment. As designated disaster service workers, Public Works must be prepared to respond to an emergency regardless of where and when it happens. To always be prepared, we use special, pre-planned events, such as parades and large celebrations, as training exercises for everything from surveying damage and dispatching staff to ordering supplies and tracking costs. In celebration of Black History Month, we're highlighting the accomplishments of the outstanding black leaders and staff who are a part of our Public Works family. They shared their stories of challenges and achievements at a panel discussion held at our Operations Yard on February 15. As an organization, Public Works is proud to practice and celebrate our diversity not only during the month of February, but all year long.
